The Newcastle Knights have bolstered their forward pack by acquiring promising young lock Mason Teague from the Dolphins in a direct player swap that sees prop Sebastian Su'a move to Redcliffe.
Teague, 21, joins the Knights effective immediately. He made eight first-grade appearances for the Dolphins, with his last being in Round 25 of the 2024 NRL season against the Melbourne Storm. A Cook Islands international, Teague arrived at the Dolphins from the Penrith Panthers system, where he captained the club to the SG Ball Premiership in 2022 alongside Isaiya Katoa.
In exchange, Su'a, also 21, will begin training with the Dolphins this week and will move into their Top 30 roster. He had already agreed to join the Dolphins from the start of next year on a two-year deal, but the agreement on a player exchange has enabled him to do so sooner.
This swap provides both players with fresh opportunities and allows each club to address immediate roster needs.Teague's versatility and leadership experience are expected to be valuable assets for the Knights as they aim to strengthen their forward depth. Conversely, Su'a's addition to the Dolphins brings size and athleticism to their pack, enhancing their forward options.
The mid-season transfer reflects the dynamic nature of NRL roster management, with clubs seeking to optimize their squads for both current performance and future development
